Les Gorges du Fier, Lovagny

#3 of 154 in Parks in Haute-Savoie
Breath in the savage beauty of the Les Gorges du Fier from walkways built 24 m (79 ft) above the burbling waters. Read the signs you see along the path, as the information will reveal a surprise. Also stop in the little room at the end to see film footage that shows the changes in water level. You'll be glad the water is low as you cross the wooden bridge and feel the spray sprinkle on your face. • It's a little-known place that we discovered among friends. Yet close to the famous and splendid city of Annecy, the Gorges of the Fier dug over millennia in the rock form a narrow, spectacular trench rich in various shapes that stunned and enchanted us. In addition to the work of nature, one admires that of the men who, at the end of the 19th century, built a bridge entirely in a spill over the riverbed so that man could admire the work of water. That's impressive. On the explanatory side, the panels exposing geological and chemical phenomena are both clear and scientifically precise. On the practical side, several car parks and a small bar are available. We will be back with other friends and family at the 1st opportunity!

  • This was pretty neat and very close to town, but I have been to many slot canyons in the American Southwest, so I was a bit disappointed with all of the tourist buildup around the place. I really wanted to hike through the gorges myself, but this is not possible. And some of the signage was interesting, but somewhat excessive. That said, this is a very beautiful place, accessible to all, and I'm very glad I went. But don't expect a remote slot canyon in the wild.....
  • Taking a short walk in a full of running water gorge was never that easy and comfortable. Just next to Annecy there is the wonderful Gorges du Fier. A deep gorge curved in the rocks is beautifully set with bridges and balconies. A medieval tale about a knight and a page boy which is written on a sign by the trail, helps to transform the journey in the enchanted gorge into a magical dreamlike fantasy. Great for a three hours trip with the family.
