4.0
After a trip to the London’s World Fair in 1851, Lyon’s silk manufacturers returned home determined to create a museum where their renowned work would be preserved for generations to come. Musee des Tissus et des Arts Decoratif is that museum, and since the 19th century it has grown into the largest collection of silks in the world with over two billion different design samples that span over 4,500 years of silk production. Inside you will find local samples that date back to the middle ages and pieces from China, Japan, and even silks that once clothed the Pharaohs of Egypt. Planning Lyon trip won't be overwheling when you use's Insprock itinerary maker.

  • Fascinating stuff! Similar to the V&A and the Met textile galleries in some ways. Very enjoyable and informative. Note most of the information is in French only.
  • Large collection of fabrics from all the ages but ground floor completely leaks of any explanation in English or any other languages but French. Also the entrance is a bit pricey.
