Musee Miniature et Cinema, Lyon

See exquisite miniatures and learn about movie special effects at Musee Miniature et Cinema, housed in a 15th-century architectural masterpiece. Inside the Maison des Avocats (House of Lawyers), you’ll find miniatures carved in minute detail. The museum is the brainchild of Dan Ohlmann, a cabinetmaker with a passion for detail that led to a career as one of the leading miniaturist artists in the world. Over 100 miniatures display hyper-realistic scenes of everyday life, such as a local market, a bedroom, or a salon complete with bookshelves and teacups. Continue to the second floor where you'll see the artists at work. Watch as a miniature takes shape under the steady hand of these resident artists. If you’re hungry for more magic, then don’t miss the film special-effects exhibit displayed in the other half of the historic building; the dynamic displays and reenactments reveal the trickery behind the camera. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Lyon holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Musee Miniature et Cinema and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The exhibition is super made, very entertaining and informative. Impressive, amazing and unique. These miniatures are great! We've never seen anything like it anywhere. We enjoyed it a lot. Time passed in flight (we were there for a surprising 3 hours).

  • I went to put it free of charge with a Lyon City card. I like movies, but honestly I didn't enjoy it very much, and when I was about to go home right away, the person in charge told me that It was better to just look at miniatures, so I looked around the miniatures on the upper floor. I was impressed with the very fine making. It is recommended for those who have more time, but there were other places I wanted to go, so I guess this was a low priority.

  • I was so curious how small they could be, those models are extremely incredible. And if you try using your camera rolling those small rooms from left to right. You will find out that they seem so real!
  • Really, really good experience for cinema fans. Just GO and see it, I was really impressed. You need at least 2h for the full experience. Places NOT suitable for children are well indicated, be a responsible parent. 😏
