La Maroquinerie, Paris

4.0
#194 of 557 in Nightlife in Paris
Formerly a leather factory, La Maroquinerie is now a bright, comfortable café and bar. When you go, you can also enjoy a coveted downstairs concert venue that hosts the odd literary debate and a wealth of cool music acts. La Maroquinerie is often home to the Inrocks Indie Club nights, but there are still traces of its world music roots. If you’re looking for a bite to eat, the food is claimed to be excellent and quite reasonably priced. Order a glass of wine to complete your meal--the choices are sourced from across France and start at €3 a glass. The interior, lined with exposed brick, is cozy, and in summer many locals like to fill up the shaded terrace. • Great venue, intimate and electric atmosphere. Traveled from Ireland for a gig and will do so again for the right artist, can't recommend high enough. If you haven't been it's a must.
  • The famous and tiny concert venue is a great place to catch new and even famous acts from every musical genre although, being underground, it is in dire need of better ventilation or air conditioning as it can get stuffy when at full capacity. You can get their early and hang out at the terrace café-bar or restaurant for a drink and even a quick gourmet bite before a show. (I recommend the Buddha Bowl or the burger & fries.)
