Musee d'Orsay, Paris
Located in a former Beaux Arts railway station that was constructed around 1900, Musee d'Orsay features the largest collection of impressionist masterpieces in the world. Some of the most notable paintings on view include "Starry Night Over the Rhone,” by Vincent van Gogh, "The Card Players,” by Paul Cézanne, and “L’Absinthe," by Edgar Degas. The majority of the exhibits are French art that dates from 1848 to 1915, including photographs, paintings, furniture, and sculptures. While tours are not offered in English, there is an interactive floor plan in English that you can access to create a personalized, printable tour of your very own. Je vais souvent dans ce musée installé dans l' ancienne gare d' Orsay. Beaucoup d' espace et de luminosité. Impressionnistes, sculptures, mobiliers d' art. The holiday room, "Fireman" style, with a view of the Seine is worth a peek. A hint, to avoid the tail, take his wire-cutter ticket on the Internet.
The museum is an old train station. It’s huge and if you’re a fan of arts, you can spend days there. You can't see everything in a single visit, so a plan is needed. And going through the exhibits one... more »
Beautiful art in a beautiful building, which used to be a train station. Entry for EU citizens under 26 is free, like all state museums, which is amazing. It's very well-visited, but still better than the Louvre I think. The cafe on the top floor is also cool, we got to sit right behind the huge clock, which has a glass face so you can see outside (there's another one on that floor, if you don't want to visit the cafe). Also don't miss the beautiful Klimt piece in the art nouveau section, no one was there!
Absolutely love this museum. The building itself is beautiful, and the art collection is amazing. My personal favorite is the top floor. They have quite a collection of impressionist paintings and the large clock is absolutely stunning. The main restaurant on the second floor had tasty food, reasonable prices, and a beautiful dining hall.
