Passage Jouffroy, Paris

#345 of 2,919 in Things to do in Paris
Built in 1845 to capitalize on the popularity of the older Passage des Panoramas, Passage Jouffroy is a glass-and-iron covered walkway filled with exclusive shops. It extends 140 m (460 ft) through the city, and was quite a feat for its day. It was the first Parisian passage built entirely of metal and glass and heated through the floor. Many consider this a precursor to modern shopping malls. Start your trip to Paris by creating a personalized itinerary on Inspirock.

  • One of our favourite things to do on a rainy day was visit the covered passages, this one, (built in 1845) is a little plain, however, has the bestest book store.  more »

  • This is my favorite of all parisien passages. There are some retro, some chic and some elegance. It was really fun discovering this passage.
  • Still with it's original 19th century glass ceilings, chipped floor tiles and huge clock above the entry arcade, walking through this passage is like stepping back in time. Best place to avoid hordes of tourists. Here you can browse leisurely through art shops, old school toy stores, and interesting hobby shops. Our lunch at Le Valentin (which is actually best known for its great selection of tea and matching pastries) was a real charming experience.
