Rue St-Dominique was renamed Rue St.-Dominique in 1631 after the Dominican monastery that opened on this street that year. The site has had many names over the years--chemin de la Longue Raye (1355), chemin des Treilles (1433), chemin Herbu des Moulins à Vent (1523), chemin de l'Oseraie (1527), chemin du Port (1530), chemin des Vaches (1542), chemin de la Justice, and chemin des Charbonniers.

The allure today stems from the fact that the street feels authentic--making visitors feel like natives as they wander past the bakeries, restaurants, shoe stores, kitchen shops, bistros, boutiques, and butcher shops. It's centrally located, close to many attractions, and offers stunning views of the Eiffel Tower.
