#3 of 10 in Parks in Athens
Garden · Nature / Park
Take a break from the heat and the crowds of the city at National Garden. Created by Queen Amalia in 1839, these gardens once belonged to the royal palace. Now, the 15.4 hectare (38 acre) property is open to the public throughout the day. Walk among the multitude of trees, flowers, and other greenery, or sit on one of the many benches to picnic and watch the ducks in the pond. Stop into the on-site mini zoo to view turtles, birds, goats, and some other animals. • Seeing the sad state of affairs of animals and garden, it is a sad sight. Pathways are not maintained to a standard. Men staring with I'll will at single women.  more »
  • We spent 5 days in Athens in October during covid, and walked through the park at least 3 times, usually on the way somewhere. It's very peaceful and would be a good place to give young kids a break.....  more »

  • Located across from Amalia Hotel, it was perfectly located. We wondered the park for a good portion if the day, and I wish we had more time there. Athens National Garden was one of the highlights of our trip, with its secret garden paths and "rooms" that house wonderful surprises at every corner. It is a Must-see!!! Grab some food and have a picnic, meditate while you enjoy the sweet sounds of this little oasis, take your kids to the play park and to see the birds and animals. Oh yeah, it is also FREE!
  • In August, when was very sunny and hot, it was very refreshing to stay in Gardens. There is even tap water to drink, unfortunately it was warm, but still drinkable. We even saw guards shift from there. I truly recommend visiting, especially when the sun shines like crazy.
