Wat Plai Laem, Bophut

#2 of 26 in Historic Sites in Surat Thani Province
Religious Site · Tourist Spot
At Wat Plai Laem, a modern Buddhist temple, admire the statues--one an 18-armed image of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion, the other of Budai, the laughing Buddha. Though the temple was constructed recently, it incorporates traditional Chinese and Thai elements into its design. Enjoy a tranquil stroll among the colorful idols, ornate architecture, and riverside scenery. Make Wat Plai Laem a part of your Bophut vacation plans using our Bophut holiday site.

  • - Unlike the Big Buddha, the approach is not crowded by stalls and shops. - Free to enter. There are donation boxes for those who so wish to contribute. - Visually interesting. - It was very quiet.....  more »
  • Awesome statue of 18 hands Guan Yin and Laughing Buddha. The statues are beautiful and huge. Go there in late afternoon when the sun will shine on the statue and project a very warm & golden colour.  more »
  • Interesting temple. Filled with tourists though. Recommend visiting early in the morning to avoid. Worth buying some of the fish food on sale. So many fish.
  • Very large beautiful temple complex, nicely built and preserved. Feeding the fishes in the lake was great experience for kids. We did long stroll around all three huge statues and studied the buddha life story in the middle temple. Toilets are clean, plenty of parking space. You can buy food for fish there locally.
