Well-known for the beautiful views of its famous Promenade des Anglais waterfront, Nice is an ethnically-diverse coastal port city on the French Riviera and the fifth most populated city in France.
On the 29th (Mon), steep yourself in history at Musee Escoffier de l'Art Culinaire, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Cathedrale Saint-Nicolas a Nice, take a stroll through Place Rossetti, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Cathedrale Sainte-Reparate, and finally head outdoors with Promenade du Paillon. Here are some ideas for day two: contemplate the long history of Ville medieval, then pause for some serene contemplation at Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs, then steep yourself in history at Villa Kerylos, and finally go for a stroll along the water at Old Harbor (La Darse).

Best known as a fortified town, Carcassonne is a walled city that provided the inspiration for the castle in Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" and the location for many scenes in Kevin Costner's movie "Robin Hood." For a daily dose of excitement, medieval jousting tournaments are held twice per day between the two walls--while this may sound like a typical touristy show, it's actually an entertaining display of combative competition and horsemanship.
On the 2nd (Thu), explore the galleries of Musee Berenger Sauniere, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Eglise Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, contemplate the long history of Tour Magdala, then steep yourself in history at Cathar Castles, then pause for some serene contemplation at Eglise Saint-Nazaire, and finally stop by Cité de Carcassonne.
