Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Step off the beaten path and head to Castelo dos Mouros and Miradouro de Santa Luzia. Museum-lovers will appreciate Museu Nacional do Azulejo and Carmo Archaeological Museum. Change things up with these side-trips from Lisbon: Sintra (Quinta da Regaleira & Park and National Palace of Pena). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Castelo de S.
