At the southernmost tip of the island of Corsica, Bonifacio is a city with chalk-white limestone outcrops sculpted into unusual shapes by the ocean.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Sat): contemplate the long history of Bonifacio Citadel, head off the coast to Iles Lavezzi, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Plage du Petit Sperone. Famous for its chain of extinct volcanoes surrounding Clermont-Ferrand includes the highest Puy-de-Dôme volcano only 13 km (8 mi) from its city center.
Family-friendly places like Chateau de Murol and Chateau de Tournoel will thrill your kids. Get outdoors at Volcano Park of Lemptegy and Lac Pavin. When in Clermont-Ferrand, make a side trip to see Parc Animalier d'Auvergne in Ardes, approximately 56 minutes away. There's still lots to do: examine the collection at L'Aventure Michelin, contemplate the geological forces at Puy-de-Dome Volcano, and pause for some serene contemplation at Cathedrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption.

Driving on the narrow streets can be difficult in La Rochelle so walking or biking will give you the best view of the pale stone buildings that give the Vieux Port, or old port, a distinctly Mediterranean quality.
Visiting Plage de Chatelaillon and Vieux Port will get you outdoors. Kids will enjoy Le phare de chassiron and Association Hermione-La Fayette. Get out of town with these interesting La Rochelle side-trips: Phare des Baleines (in Saint Clement des Baleines), Quartier de l'Ile de Penotte (in Les Sables-d'Olonne) and Clocher Observatoire (in Saint Martin de Re).
