Lyon

— 59 nights

Culinary Capital of France

Lyon is a historical city with a vibrant cultural scene as the birthplace of cinema, the silk capital of the globe, and the second biggest Renaissance city following Venice.
Visiting Lake Annecy and Parc Naturel Regional Du Vercors will get you outdoors. Venture out of the city with trips to Monument aux Morts (in Chalon-sur-Saone), Beaune (Hôtel-Dieu Museum Musée de l'Hôtel-Dieu, Wine Tours & Tastings, &more) and Saint-Claude (Cascade de la queue de cheval, Gorges de l'Abime, &more). There's still lots to do: admire the striking features of Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere, get to know the fascinating history of Colline de Fourviere, stroll around Parc de la Tete d'Or, and see the interesting displays at Musee Miniature et Cinema.

For where to stay, more things to do, photos, and more tourist information, use the Lyon day trip planner.

If you are flying in from Thailand, the closest major aiports are Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport, Saint-Étienne-Bouthéon Airport, Grenoble-Isère Airport and Chambéry-Savoie Airport. Expect a daytime high around 9°C in January, and nighttime lows around 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Mon) to allow time to travel back home.
