Aix-en-Provence is a small, classically Provençal town, famous for being home to Cézanne.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Sat): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, get engrossed in the history at Paul Cezanne’s Studio, and then get to know the fascinating history of Vieil Aix. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 30th (Sun): take in the spiritual surroundings of Paroisse Cathédrale Saint Sauveur Aix-en-Provence and then see the interesting displays at Musee Granet.

Montreal, Canada to Aix-en-Provence is an approximately 12- hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight and bus. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Central European Standard Time, which is usually a 6 hour difference. Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Montreal in September: highs in Aix-en-Provence hover around 30°C, while lows dip to 19°C. An ancient town center surrounded by medieval ramparts, Avignon is a major city of Provence and a Mediterranean city in the Vaucluse department on the left bank of the Rhône River.
Start off your visit on the 1st (Mon): steep yourself in history at Site Archeologique de Glanum, admire the landmark architecture of Monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole, and then explore the historical opulence of Palais des Papes. Here are some ideas for day two: catch a live event at Arenes de Nimes, steep yourself in history at Eglise St-Trophime, then steep yourself in history at Theatre Antique, and finally explore the world behind art at Carrieres des Lumieres.

Traveling by bus from Aix-en-Provence to Avignon takes an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and train. In September, plan for daily highs up to 30°C, and evening lows to 16°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 2nd (Tue) early enough to catch the train to Grenoble.

On the 4th (Thu), walk around Parc de la Tete d'Or, admire the landmark architecture of Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere, then get to know the fascinating history of Secrets d'Apiculteur, and finally get to know the fascinating history of Vieux Lyon.
