At the foot of the French Alps where the river Drac joins the Isère (the lion and the serpent), Grenoble offers you tons of winter and summer activities to keep the entire family busy, like hiking, climbing, skiing, and snowboarding, as well as swimming in clean mountain lakes.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Palais Ideal du Facteur Cheval and Bastille. Take a break from the city and head to Plages de Saint Jorioz and Gorges du Fier. Change things up with these side-trips from Grenoble: Jardin des fontaines petrifiantes (in La Sone), Chambéry Cathedral (in Chambery) and Annecy (Lac d'Annecy & La Vieille Ville). The adventure continues: stop by Magasin de Sport Elixir, see the interesting displays at Cite du Chocolat Valrhona, take an in-depth tour of Musee de la Resistance et de la Deportation de l'Isere, and have fun at Briancon.

For ratings, other places to visit, where to stay, and more tourist information, refer to the Grenoble online road trip planner .

If you are flying in from Belgium, the closest major airports are Grenoble-Isère Airport, Chambéry-Savoie Airport and Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport. In August, daytime highs in Grenoble are 30°C, while nighttime lows are 16°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Mon) to allow time to travel back home.
