Known for its idyllic location on the shores of Lake Como and at the foot of the Alps, Como is one of northern Italy's most popular tourist destinations.
Head to Villa e Collezione Panza and Libreria Ubikfor some retail therapy. Get a sense of the local culture at Cathedral of Como (Duomo) and Museo Didattico della Seta. Venture out of the city with trips to Varese (Santuario di Santa Maria del Monte, Casa Museo Lodovico Pogliaghi, &more). In many ways the most modern of Italian cities, Milan is a busy, elegant metropolis with an impressive list of grand palaces, fine churches, and important museums.
Step off the beaten path and head to Villa Necchi Campiglio and Brera District. Museum-lovers will appreciate Gallerie d’Italia and Museo Teatrale alla Scala. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Milan: Vigevano (Castello Sforzesco, Piazza Ducale, &more). And it doesn't end there: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Duomo di Milano, admire the masterpieces at Grande Museo del Duomo di Milano, make a trip to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and steep yourself in history at Chiesa di San Bernardino alle Ossa.
