No ordinary stop on your tour of the region, Pulteney Bridge is one of only four bridges in the entire world designed to be lined by shops on both sides. The bridge was built in 1773 for William Pulteney, whose wife had inherited property on the other side of the Avon River, directly across from the city of Bath. Pulteney was something of a visionary, recognizing in the simple village settlement across the water a great potential for becoming a prosperous city suburb. Pulteney hired noted Scottish architect Robert Adam, who based this elegant structure on the bridges he saw and admired in Italy. Stroll across the river at dusk, and photograph the grand old bridge as the sun sets over the landscape. A really photogenic background for a selfie. You have to admire the builders who put the weir in the middle of the river and built this beautifully ornate bridge. more »

Gorgeous Georgian Bridge with remains from the Roman times in the nearby Park over the river with a fantastic view. Especially beautiful when lit up at night. Lots of shops on the top and the most stunning Vista as you walk across the bridge and look up the long Georgian Street at the end of it. An absolute must do tourist thing when visiting Bath.

Beautiful place. I went in a very sunny day but I would think that it beautiful all year round. The food in most places in Bath is high quality. It was a perfect quick trip from London, we stood only one night.
