Finish your stroll down Edinburgh's Royal Mile by touring the stately Scottish residence of the British monarch, Palace of Holyroodhouse. The palace's founding dates back to the establishment of Holyrood Abbey in 1128, and the King and Queen of Scots resided here from the 15th century onward. Inside you'll see the state apartments, which contain one of the world's largest collections of Brussels tapestries and numerous other works of art. You'll also enter Mary, Queen of Scots’ chambers, where the famous and ill-fated queen slept and devoutly practiced her Catholic faith. If you visit in summer, your ticket price includes a tour of the abbey, or use a complimentary audio guide as you walk through the palace. Before you leave, have your ticket stamped to receive a year of free admission. We took our mother to 'Christmas at Holyrood' followed by afternoon tea for her 93rd birthday and were extremely disappointed. The food was fine but, there were hardly any Christmas decorations...

Great history here. Beautiful garden areas and Abbey. You get to visit several rooms inside the house as well, which was very pleasant. Audio guide book is helpful. Worth a visit if you are in the area. Handy car park to the back which then leads up to Arthur's Chair and a beautiful country walk. 10/10
A beautiful palace to visit. There are plenty interesting facts you get to hear through the audio guide, and you can see the palace relatively fast. A fun fact is that Queen Elisabeth takes residence for about a week in the palace, every year. The location is close to one end of the Royal Mile, which is nice to combine with your visit to the palace.
