The origin of a literary genius, Shakespeare's Birthplace was opened as a museum in the 1940s. Adjoining the house is the Shakespeare Center, where collections, documents, and the library are housed. This is also where you buy tickets and enter Shakespeare's house. The creators of the museum exhibit have lovingly restored the house to resemble what it may have looked like during Shakespeare's childhood. Inside are furnishings, the glove-making shop of John Shakespeare, and household items that look as if they were just laid down. Look for a window full of signatures, the names of people who have visited the house over the centuries. The garden has also been restored to what may have been its original state, and it makes for a pleasant stroll. Being not a fan of Shakespeare decided to see what all this was about. Very informative & really interesting & a quaint little house. I would say it’s definitely worth a visit except that £20 was a... more »
Even though I am not really a Shakespeare fan, it's difficult to visit Stratford and not get caught up in his history. I did this tour visit and actually enjoyed it. I found the initial presentation area informative and did have to marvel at the list of words attributed to him that we still use today. The house itself I absolutely loved. I do enjoy my general history and always love visiting old historical buildings. The gardens are maintained well and offer a bit of respite, or you can sit back and enjoy some snippets from plays brought to you by a few performers within the garden area. It is popular and busy, obviously, but well worth the visit.
This is a wonderful experience. The exhibit is really cool and interesting, especially in that it shows how Shakespeare has impacted the world and your life. The home is perfectly set up with fun actors/guides that tell great stories and information of the home. Outside in the beautiful garden, there are amazing actors that perform the Shakespeare Aloud! They make it fun to just sit and relax while enjoying their well-done, energetic performances, and even let you do requests! The gift shop has a wide array of good souvenirs.
