Key West Lighthouse and Keeper's Quarters Museum
Visit Key West Lighthouse and Keeper's Quarters Museum, with a 20 m (65 ft) lighthouse that opened in 1825. The first keeper, Michael Mabrity, died in 1832, and his widow, Barbara, took over for the next 32 years. It was quite unusual to have a female keeper at the time. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1969. Today you can explore the quarters and see the keeper's tools and personal effects, including those of Barbara Mabrity. Climb the 88 steps of the spiral staircase to the deck for a glimpse of the Fresnel lights and a view over the sea. Tours are self-guided, but a staff member is on site to answer your questions. Great way to see the island from above. Not too many steps to the top. Go early so you don't have to wait in line. more »

This site provides a lot of information about the history and operation of lighthouses. The lighthouse itself is not that tall, but Key West is a very flat town with no tall buildings and you can... more »

Cool place to visit - learn a bit about life in the early days of Key West and learn about life as a Lighthouse Keeper! The visit to the top of the lighthouse is a must! Wonderful views and beautiful fresh air! It’s only 91 steps up (and a dizzying equal amount of steps down!) but totally worth the exercise! The small museum is housed in the old house for the keeper and his family. It’s air conditioned and provided a calm and educational break from the craziness of Key West. I highly recommend a visit.

Nothing crazy to rant about but if you're looking for something to do, it was pretty neat to see the town from that view up there and it isn't crazy expensive. The stairs definitely feel longer than i thought! Worth checking out if you're into pretty views and taking pictures.
