Occupying the site of an old fort, spans just under 1 hectare (2 acres) and contains several heritage sites on the self-guided trail through the town's historical district. The star attraction of the park is a banyan tree, planted here in 1873 to mark the 50th anniversary of the first American Protestant mission in Lahaina. Now the largest banyan tree in all of Hawaii, the giant trunk and its aerial root system cover nearly 2,700 sq m (29,000 sq ft) of the park. Native to India, this banyan is one of 60 types of fig trees currently found on the islands of Hawaii. Beautiful! Peaceful place to enjoy a picnic. Next to the harbor and located on Front street so took a whale watching tour , visited the park and walked along Front Street. Made an enjoyable day... more »

This tree is amazing! It actually is one Tree but has come up in several different places and it's connected above ground, it is awesome to look at it. You will find it at the end the Front Street across from where the shuttle will drop you off. You're not supposed to climb it but you know there is always someone who thinks it's cute to let their kids climb on it. They actually had musicians in the same area clean and vendor set-up selling little items under the tree

It's pretty neat. As you've read, the whole thing is one tree with the vines growing down to become their own tree trunks. I would say go out of your way to see it, but you are here and found parking consider making the stop.
