The country's largest museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art houses vast series of collections, with more than 2 million works divided among 17 departments. Within this single building view thousands of pieces of American and European art, including notable works by Whistler, Sargent, Rembrandt, and Vermeer. The museum also notably contains what's considered the greatest collection of Egyptian art outside Cairo. One of the world's most prestigious centers of art and culture, the museum welcomes more than 5 million visitors each year. Step inside to see Roman statues, musical instruments, antique weapons, costumes, period rooms, Egyptian artifacts, and modern photographs. Consider a guided tour of the museum highlights. You may want to end your visit with a drink in the rooftop bar. I had come in twice for the Alice Neil Exhibition that was open to the members first. It was really interesting and I knew nothing about the artist so the exhibition was a real treat. Her work is... more »
Amazing museum with extremely poor choices in the coffee shop. You can find better food at a gas station. We went for breakfast and only found pre-packed sandwiches in rubbery stale bread (15 USD... more »
My favorite museum in NYC. I was fortunate enough to live in walking distance of this place and always loved coming here. The place is huge and there’s so much to look at. Plan on having a lot of time set aside if you any the full experience. If you’re trying to decided what museum to go to I’d recommend this one. Admission is donation based which is great if you cannot afford a lot. My favorite part are the reconstructed rooms - it makes you feel like you’re waking around in a castle. 🏰
The MET is the most visited museum in New York. They’re open now and tickets should be reserved ahead online. Face covering is a must and temperature check before entering. Weekends get a bit crowded so weekdays work better if you don’t like crowds. Do check out Jacob Lawrence in the modern gallery and the Lattice Detour show on the roof garden- both great exhibition!
