Providing a home for 3,700 of some of the world's rarest animals, San Diego Zoo features pandas, gorillas, antelopes, orangutans, koalas, and much more. Noted for pioneering the concept of cage-free exhibits that recreate natural animal habitats, this zoo covers an area of almost 40 hectares (100 acres). Take guided tours on a bus, or hop on an overhead gondola to see the diverse habitats from the air. See different animals often found side by side in the wild, along with native plant life from places such as African rainforests and Arctic taigas. To view the collection of rare plants, visit the arboretum. Begin your visit at the visitor center, where you can pick up a free map. It’s a bit different during these covid times but seems pretty safe with all the hand gel stations and staff members reminding people to keep masks on. more »

It was a great experience. All of the animals looked stimulated and the habitat/exhibit design is superb. The zoo is very large, so if you want to see at least half of it, the bus tour is your best bet. The top isn't worth the hype, the bottom saw better views of the animals. Kangaroo buses are also good but the wait times can be pretty long. Very cool, and numerous gift shops throughout.

The zoo was amazing. A ton of animals out and about. Lots of viewing areas for all. I recommend going on a warm clear day, the animals are more playful during those times. I warn you about going to early, some of the animals are still sleeping at the time the park opens. It can all be seen in a day if you are quick. It was great to see so many exotic and cool animals. Staff is very helpful and friendly!
