Looming above the left bank of the Vltava River, Prague Castle claims status as the largest castle complex in the world. Dating back to the ninth century, the imposing structure occupies nearly 70,000 sq m (753,000 sq ft), its grounds so big they include four churches and four palaces, as well as five different gardens. Once the seat of power for kings of Bohemia and Holy Roman emperors, the castle now serves as the official residence of the country's president. The structure has undergone four major reconstructions since the 12th century, and its blend of architectural styles earned it a spot on the World Heritage List. Prague Castle is a castle complex in Prague, Czech Republic, built in the 9th century. It is the official office of the President of the Czech Republic. The castle was a seat of power for kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and presidents of Czechoslovakia. Today Prague Castle, besides being the seat of the head of state, is also an important cultural and historical monument. The Crown Jewels are kept at Prague Castle, as are the relics of Bohemian kings, precious Christian relics, art treasures and historical documents. You can enter the castle through the main entrance. Walking around the empty grounds will make the experience even more magical. If you can, plan your visit to the castle for during the week, as the weekend always sees the biggest crowds. There are 3 entrances to Prague Castle, all of which have security checks. Prague Castle has been an important symbol of the Czech state for more than a thousand years. The Guinness Book of Records claims that Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world and its magnitude is certainly astonishing. The castle is also the city's most recognizable landmark, because it dominates the skyline: the castle is perched majestically on the hillside in the Castle
