Knuthenborg Safaripark, Maribo

Knuthenborg Safaripark serves as home to nearly 1,000 animals of 40 different species including antelopes, camels, giraffes, rhinoceroses, zebras, and the endangered species of Arctic wolf. The history of the park dates back to 1870, when owner Count Eggert C. Knuthlaid created a park for his collection of rare botanical plants. One of his descendants started to fill the park with free-roaming exotic creatures in 1969. Today the park houses an arboretum, an aviary, a tiger enclosure, attractive picnic areas, and a nature and a water playground for children. Most of the park is bicycle-friendly, except the savannah, which is accessible only by car or safari bus. In some areas visitors can touch the animals.
