Discover the traditional life of Danish farmers from the time of Hans Christian Andersen at The Funen Village. This open-air museum was founded as a public works project in 1942 during the German occupation. Some 30 original buildings were moved to the museum from various sites in the Funen region. Walk down the village street along half-timbered houses, flower gardens, and fenced enclosures with livestock. With the living history you can experience the atmosphere of a day in the country in the 18th century. Smell beer brewing, watch a young girl helping the mistress in the kitchen, and hear the sound of the blacksmith's hammer. What a great place: all the houses were open and staff was walking around to ask questions. A lot of information on plants and animals.

If you have been to Den Gamble By in Aarhus, this museum may underwhelm you. It is much smaller but you probably still need 2 hrs to see everything properly. I arrived about 1 hr 40 mins before...

Very nice place to go back in to the history of Denmark! The park is nice, well maintained, clean and the staff is very friendly. Prices are good for what you get. For kids it is also nice, for the small once you can use wagons to go around because the park is quite big ( my kids 5 & 3 years) lost their interest half way. If they are a bit older it should be good. We loved it and recommend this!!

We had a nice time there, but must admit there is not much to do with little kids .. the animals are all far away and the horse carriage you have to pay extra for. Though if you see it as an museum, it’s certainly more interesting for kids then just looking at old stone in vitrines.
