Dip your feet in the salty waters of Lake Assal, a crater lake situated at the top of the Great Rift Valley in the Danakil Desert. Although rich in minerals, the lake water does not support any life other than bacteria. Still, salt collection here--in the world's largest natural salt deposit--provides an income for local farmers. One of the hottest places on earth, the underground of the lake continuously evaporates, creating ever more layers of solid salt bed, over which you can even drive a car. Gaze at the surreal, sunken landscapes with scant thorny bushes, camels, lizards, small birds, and insects. Lake Assal reviews
This is a wonder of the world. The salty, crystalized volcanic lake. Very beautiful from kilometers away. The temperatures are really hot though and you need to carry spare shoes to access the lake...

Don't put your face in the water. Wear shoes that will not slip off, the salt will burn your eyes and cut your feet. Amazing experience, I recommend to do this once in your life should the opportunity present itself.
Not too difficult to get to, but about 1.5 to 2h out side of the capitol in the desert, takes long only because of the slow traffic caused by big trucks chugging up the steep roads. There are 2 or 3 stops worth looking at along the way of canyons and mountains, the gypsies at these stops will want water in addition to their high prices. The lake itself is a beautiful site to see, something you need to do if you're already in the country.
