Musee Chateau has watched over the town below since the 12th century. However, the only part of the castle still standing from this time is the Queen’s Tower with its 4 m (13 ft) thick walls; the rest of the castle was completed in the 16th century. The structure suffered from multiple fires, but remained strong enough to serve as a military barracks until 1947. It's now a museum housing Alpine popular art, such as furniture, sculptures, photography, and modeled chalets. Stand on the castle terrace and look out over the narrow streets of the old town, or visit the lookout tower for a wider view of the area. • Lovely French castle with a glorious, panoramic view of the town. The walk up to the castle was lovely and this castle is definitely worth visiting.

  • Chateau Annecy rises above the old town of this cute French town. It dates back to 12c and is visible almost from all over the town. From center it requires some 15 min to reach it. Views from it...

  • The castle of Annecy is in fact a museum, but its exhibits are not very special. The view from the inner courtyard is the only thing I enjoyed, providing a clear separation between the red-tiled roofs of the Old City and the more modern flat roofs of the rest of Annecy. Access is very difficult and involves either a steep, harrowing climb uphill, without any shade, or a shorter route that is even steeper, also without shade. Warning for people with roller skates or skateboards: the cling is doable for experienced skaters, but the descent is nearly impossible and damages the brakes.
  • Nothing really interesting to view, only a good spot overlooking Annecy for great photos. Watch out for the mermaid-monkeys, it's a prank from an artist and of course they are not real. Read the signs carefully to not fall victim of the prank.
