The Chartreuse de la Verne, in English means Our Lady of Mercy of Verne, is a Roman Catholic convent attached to the Diocese of Frejus-Toulon. Built in 1170, the Chartreuse de la Verne has a long and troubled history. The Chartreuse has been burned, pillaged and destroyed multiple times. It has also been rebuilt numerous times. Despite this troubled history, many Chartreuse is not in complete ruins.     Whichever way you go it's a long drive along narrow roads through the Maures Massif. Locals in cars, vans and lorries don't slow down, so be warned! Once there the car park is a ten minute walk from.....  more
