The Musée des Confluences is a science centre and anthropology museum which opened on 20 December 2014 in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, (Rhône), France. It is located at the southern tip of the Presqu'île at the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône, adjacent to Autoroute A7, and comprises part of a larger redevelopment project of the Confluence quarter of Lyon. The deconstructivist architectural design, said to resemble a floating crystal cloud of stainless steel and glass, was created by the Austrian firm Coop Himmelb(l)au.

  • My review refers to the external structure, as I have not had the opportunity to visit it internally. Well, it really is a very, very strange structure, even if it is useful to be able to shelter from the hot Lyon sun and it is also located in a fairly nice area of the Confluence district. Anyway, I've heard that the museum inside is really nice!
  • Worth visiting. The permanent exhibition is about natural history. Very popular with parents with children. Expect queues during holidays. Outside, next to the brasserie, there’s a shallow pool of water where people dip their feet during summer. During summer the billetterie may move upstairs to near the galleries because it’s air-conditioned. When I visited there was I intense summer heat from climate change, and the building is like a greenhouse trapping heat.
