Create an itinerary including Parc de la Tete d'Or
Parc de la Tete d'Or is 117 hectares (290 acres) of urban outdoor fun. The locals love it for jogging and cycling, while you’ll love it for boating, the zoo, and mini-golf. Construction of this city oasis began in 1812 and continues to the present day. The city adds exhibits every few years, such as an African Safari addition to the zoo in 2010. Although the park takes its name for a legendary treasure that may have been buried on its grounds, you’ll find that the real treasure isn't gold or diamonds but the serenity of the park’s environs. • Maybe the most beautiful city park I have ever seen. There are a large variety of spaces for people to just stop and enjoy. If you stop in a quiet place and look up, you might see some squirrels in the trees. It's also great for walkers and runners. Dogs are allowed (except in the zoo part, but we saw some anyway) and it's a great place for them, with big green parts to run and play. The zoo part of the park is really cool: the entrance is free, the animals are well-cared and their spaces are large and complex enough for them to live in it. We only saw one animal that seemed very stressed, but it was probably because of some visitors that weren't respecting the calm attitude the zoo ask to have near the animals. Also, the zoo makes an effort to be transparent about the way it functions and the choices it makes.
  • A nice strong away from the touristy environment of Lyon you reach this tranquil and large park with many activities. A beautiful park with many large gate entrances. Very surprised there is a zoo that is free to the public - but don’t expect to see exotic animals…the central pond is just relaxing, the botanic garden is a boast for the flower and plant enthusiasts. Really enjoyed and visited it a few times as it’s also close to the museum of contemporary arts.
