Cathedrale St-Just, Narbonne

Although its construction was never finished, Cathedrale St-Just is a former cathedral and basilica minor--and, today, an official French national monument. The site has been a place of worship since 313 CE, shortly after Christianity became a legal religion. Nearly 1,000 years later, worships started to build a Gothic cathedral here. Not much remains of the building, but the existing structure is noteworthy. Two Roman columns from the former Forum, once used in the nave, are now in the cloister. The steeple has been largely restored, but little else of the architecture has been preserved, save for its white marble lintel and aedicule, which are on display at a nearby museum.
