Create an itinerary including Musee des Beaux-Arts de Rouen
Particularly interesting because its fine art collections represent every European school from the 15th to the 21st centuries, Musee des Beaux-Arts de Rouen was founded in 1801 by Napoléon I. The vast collection represents many periods and styles with objets d'art, paintings, and drawings. The lost statue, "Hercules Slaying the Hydra of Lerna" by Pierre Puget, is on view, as well as other notable sculptures like "Satyr and Nymph” by Théodore Géricault. An impressive donation of François Depeaux paintings placed the museum at the forefront for Impressionist and 19th-century paintings. Renowned pieces include "Rue Saint-Denis" by Monet, "Democritus" by Diego Velázquez, and "Christ at the Column" by Caravaggio. • Fantastic gallery, though a little confusingly laid out. Rooms are numbered but not all and not always logically. Staff helpful and spoke English, there are free lockers on site to store bags too. Art is great with a wide selection of famous artist. Highly recommended
  • Great museum with a very friendly personnel. We were with little kids who were quite noisy, but the personnel didn't mind and even helped to calm the baby down. Really sweet of them. As for the paintings - it's a very interesting collection, especially the rooms with impressionists and Dutch painters.
