Located in a city that traces its roots back to ancient Rome, Place du Vieux-Marche is most famous as the site where the English burned St. Joan of Arc at the stake. Today, it's hard to picture that gory scene in such a charming square, bordered by historical houses and cafes. As a reminder of the past, you can visit the square's large modern church, dedicated to St. Joan of Arc. Finished in 1979, it's built to represent an upturned Viking ship.
