Create an itinerary including Notre Dame de la Mer - Église fortifiée
Notre Dame de la Mer - Église fortifiée is a single, straight, unadorned nave 15 m (50 ft) high. The church once held an important strategic position--it towers over the village and is visible from as far as 10 km (6.2 mi). The roof of the church served as a watchtower, and is surrounded by a rampart walk with battlements and machicolations. The choir and the apse are topped by a semicircular keep housing the former guards’ room, known as the upper chapel. The church was a refuge for the inhabitants of the city, and there was even a fresh-water well inside. To the right of the altar, in the crypt, you can see a statue of St. Sara, a major figure of the Roma (or gypsy) cultural tradition. Don't miss a pagan altar dating from the fourth century BCE. • A very mystical and energetic spot. You can feel and experience the legacy of all those women who practiced their Magic there and the gypsies who were attracted by the power of that Magic. Simply amazing! There is also a church there 😉.
  • Let me start of by saying, the church overall was amazing. If you are conveniently in the city I would definitely recommend going. The inside was not as amazing. There was statues and an altar, but it was nothing you can't see in any other church. There is also a room filled with candles, which was way too hot and got my eyes burning. Concluding, you aren't going to be spending more than 5 minutes inside the church. The real attraction is the roof. For 3€ you can access the church's roof. It provides a stunning view, from whichbyou can see all of the city. Some of the sights include: the bull fight arena, the beach as well as the port and of course the swamps. The church is surrounded by cute little restaurants and shops that sell everything from jewelry to clothing. Visiting the church itself will probably take half an hour, but it is easy to loose your self in the city with all there is to explore. I planned to check it out around noon, but lost track of time and only left after dinner.
