A representative example of Indo-Islamic architecture, Haji Ali Mosque dates back to the 15th century, erected to commemorate a prosperous merchant who gave up all his material possessions in order to make a pilgrimage to Mecca. A causeway connects the mosque with the rest of the world, but during high tides, water submerges this ramp and renders it inaccessible. Centuries old, the entire construction is slowly succumbing to erosion, mainly due to saline winds and more than two million visitors per year. I went there in November 2023. I was not my first time. My last time was about 10 years ago. Sadly, this place is run down. Wish they spend some money to beautify this once-beautiful mosque.
