Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane
Witness the work of contemporary Irish artists and behold Francis Bacon's studio at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane. Originally the townhouse of the First Earl of Charlemont, this grand building boasts an impressive array of modern artwork with a particularly strong collection of local works and French pieces. The site is perhaps best known for hosting Francis Bacon's studio. In 1998, six years after the painter's death, the studio and its entire contents were moved from London to the Irish gallery. Today you can observe the clutter, chaos, and genius of the room. Each piece has been painstakingly archived, including paint pots, books, slashed canvases, furniture, photographs, and more. This art gallery is a "must see" when visiting Dublin. Very close to the Jury's Hotel and Sein Fein headquarters. The admission is free and worth staying at least 1 to 2 hours. Nice gift...

Definitely worth a visit. You'll find a mix of interesting artworks there. Modern art exhibitions, which I liked even - though at times the pictures were quite dismal, yet impressive all the same. Admission to the gallery is free, by the way. Strongly recommended.

In early February 2010, I went to the cafe at this gallery with my college and I paid 20 euros for the pastry and drink but I didn't get my change back. My mentor, one of the staff members and one of my fellow students said to me that I gave the lady €5 but I didn't give her €5. I just gave her €20. Then I told the lady that I gave her €20. She said to me that I didn't give her €20 and I said to her, "Yes I did." I wasn't lying 🤥. It must be my old mentor's or college's fault. I was really upset about it and my €20 just got robbed. It was the worst college trip I ever had. College trip was just an absolute nightmare! I am never coming back to the cafe at this gallery ever again! I'd say it is definitely the worst café in Dublin I've ever been to as well. Don't worry, I still like the gallery itself. It's a fabulous gallery. I've been to this gallery about many times. I think I gave the gallery a four out of five stars.
