Create an itinerary including Castello Caetani
Thirteenth-century Castello Caetani was built as both a military fortress and a noble residence: here, you can glimpse the private and public life of medieval Lazio. Despite the fortress's large, 3 m (10 ft) thick exterior walls, Napoleon's army plundered it in the late 18th century, carrying away its valuables and furniture and turning the castle into a prison. Most restoration work was carried out nearly 100 years later. Visiting hours can be somewhat inconsistent, so it is best to check online or call first if you plan to visit. A visit to Castello Caetani represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Sermoneta vacation planning site to plot your vacation.

  • Very interesting and picturesque place! Unfortunately, excursion is held only in Italian, but they gave us an English brochure, so that we could roughly understand what we're looking at :) With this excursion you go through different parts of the castle, including cellars and tower walls. For us the latter was the most exciting! Absolutely not suitable for disabled people as you have to walk many times up and down the stairs. Some stairs are rather steepy! Though it appeared to be doable with small children.
  • Beautiful medieval village well worth a visit
