Create an itinerary including La Citerne Portugaise
La Citerne Portugaise draws visitors with its enchanting dance of dim lights reflected against the surface of the water. Originally built as a warehouse in 1514, this square underground chamber, which was later turned into a cistern, features double barrel vaults supported by 25 stone pillars. The cistern served as the filming location for several movies, including Orson Welles' "Othello." Today, the site hosts cultural events, such as concerts of Fado music. • We tried to visit on November 15. The cistern is still closed with no reopening date noted. Probably not worth coming to el jadida as a result. Wish I knew it was closed

  • We visited this place while we were in El Jadid, Marocco (August, 2022). The attraction was close while we were there. If you free time, you may visit this place. It is near the city center. The historical monuments have great building, but they need to do maintenance.
  • Very cool fort, the different canons show the progression of the Portuguese invasion of the Moroccan coasts
