Treasuring all kinds of folk art, Boucharouite Museum is known for its collection of woven and embroidered carpets, also known as rag rugs. See how Moroccan and Berber women from remote villages--bereft of elementary education--find the means to express their creativity by weaving countless knots into intricate color schemes. These women use pieces of their ragged clothes to create a rag rug--the ancient recycling technique earned their product the nickname "the carpet for the poor." The museum often hosts inspiring special events, such as "duels" between Berber storytellers and French comedians. • Five stars! Fascinating, unique works of art. I’m so glad I took the time to visit this small, private gallery. I’m especially glad that these treasures are getting the attention they deserve.
  • One of our favourite museums ever. It highlights the unsung work and creativity of women from small villages in Morocco, in a lovely tranquil space. Also has a great rooftop terrace where you can enjoy tea and treats. Better yet, you can now actually stay there! Search Dar Dallah, the Riad’s name, on google or booking dot com. The rooms are gorgeous! We’ll be staying there next time we’re in Marrakesh.
