Create an itinerary including Archaeological Site of Volubilis
Discover the mix of Berber and Roman history and architecture at Archaeological Site of Volubilis, a partially excavated ancient city, now a World Heritage Site. After coming under Roman rule in the 1st century CE, the town quickly grew into a large colonial Roman city on the edge of the empire. The triumphal arch and basilica stand as the most impressive structures of the archaeological site: note their distinctly Roman style reinterpreted into a North African context, making use of local materials and several regional motifs. • Roman settlement ruins, well preserved mosaic, good long walk around so carry water bottle with you, get very hot in summer times. Has toilets at entrance. Good to read history before visit SO go visit and enjoy.
  • Volubilis is a partly excavated Berber-Roman city not far from Meknes in Morocco. It is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site. It is definitely worth a visit, very beautiful area with an exceptionally well preserved example of a Roman colonial town. Be prepared for a warm walk (extreme temperatures in July, >40 degrees Celsius). Bring lots of water and something to eat. There is a small cafeteria on the site offering some drinks. Restrooms are available. Parking is just aside the site.
