Take the long, wooden Alvor Boardwalk through a rich estuary ecosystem teeming with wildlife, plants, and natural sights. Walk past large sand dunes and stroll along a zone of salt lakes, lagoons, and marshes. You'll pass traditional farmland to find spots sought after for shellfish--look for fishermen catching their food by a small country lighthouse. The 3 km (1.9 mi) boardwalk can also be used for cycling, running, and bird watching. It is connected to an additional 2.2 km (1.4 mi) of dirt and gravel trails, some of which will lead you to traditional restaurants. Nice walk starting near the fishermen huts. We walked to the end and back along the ocean. About 5 km. There is also a path where strollers or walkers can go and enjoy these beautiful dunes and nature.
