Amid olive and cork trees on a hillside, find Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres, the most important Megalithic site in Portugal. With 96 stones, this archeological complex is one of the largest groups of its kind in Europe. Discover the various structures that make up this impressive site, including cromlechs and menhir stones. Take in the scenic landscape and explore the site's history, which stretches back thousands of years. View the recently discovered formation, which wasn't known until Henrique Leonor Pina happened upon it while doing fieldwork in 1966. These stones were erected between the sixth and fourth millennium BCE, from the Neolithic to Chalcolithic periods, and were most likely used for religious and ceremonial purposes. • Short drive through interesting countryside out of town. Then a drive through cork tree orchards to reach this special place. What happened here centuries ago?? Amazing that they could move these...

  • A wonderful place, full of history and magic. Well preserved and organised. The menhir was in a quiet place with a bit of a walk to get there. The Cromeleque had more visitors but we could see the 93 stones without much noise.
  • The visit to these megalithic monuments is worth the visit to Évora. I scheduled the tour with Ebora Megalithica the day before my trip from Lisbon. Sira our guide is an archeologist who gave us a lesson rich in information about the monuments and their origin, the plants and trees of the region. They pick me up in front of the tourism center in the early afternoon. The visit lasts 3 hours. In the morning I had time to see every tourist site in Evora before the tour. I even visit the local museum. So if you plan a day trip to Évora having a tour from Ebora Megalithica saves you time and it is probably cheaper than paying a taxi to take you to the megalitic sites. And if you take the taxi you won't have an archeologist explaining everything to you. Don't sit on the Rocks!
