Create an itinerary including Blandy's Wine Lodge
Observe Madeira winemaking practices at Blandy's Wine Lodge, where you can hear the company's stories and learn about its history. Operating since 1840, the winery ages its wines using the traditional canteiro method, involving 650 casks, tunnels, vats, changing temperatures, and varying humidity levels. Reserve one of the guided tours to see their cellars, wooden rooms, and huge barrels, and get a chance to taste some of their products. Among numerous wines at the site, you'll have the chance to purchase a golden vintage dating back to 1920 and a deep, dark-brown Madeira bouquet with spices, toffee, and vanilla from 1958. • Comprehensive view of their wine making process in a beautiful authentic old building. The tasting was a bit rudimentary. Had a very good simple lunch in the courtyard. Felt quite special.

  • Well worth a visit: lovely buildings, interesting tour and museum, and two glasses of Madeira for €11. You can carry on and taste more Madeiras, and if you buy a bottle from the same year you get the price of the tasting back. Also 10% discount if you go on the tour. The facility to buy there, and pick up after passport control at the airport, is very useful indeed. Our 4 bottles are waiting for us!
  • The building was impressive. Some amazing attention to detail. Sadly the shop was closed. Low stars because we wanted to have tasting but couldn’t hear ourselves think due to building noise in the courtyard. We said we couldn’t hear and the server grimaced theme started shouting at us so we left.
