Create an itinerary including Tower of Hercules (Torre de Hercules)
Overlooking the north Atlantic coast, Tower of Hercules (Torre de Hercules) is an intact Roman lighthouse with mythical origins. According to legend, Hercules killed the giant Geryon and buried his head where the tower now stands, then ordered a city to be built atop the site. Whatever its true beginnings, it is thought to be the oldest lighthouse still in use in the world and a landmark of Spanish history. Take a tower tour and visit the museum to learn more about its construction. On either end of the bike path along the boardwalk you'll find rental bikes. • Great views of the city of Acuna. We came by car. Good parking. Great picture point. Definitely a great place to visit in Acuna Spain.

  • Rating is for the entire area. Sure, the Tower is phenomenal and the tour (buy tickets well BELOW the tower, in parking lot!) is a must-do, but the trails, promenade and public art are equally evocative and special. Terrific small beaches nearby. Glorious!
  • We first went during the morning and it was impossible to find parking anywhere without having a half hour walk, so we went away to the city centre and returned again the same evening. We couldn't entre inside the tower, but had a lovely walk up to and around it. Impressive tower that is the oldest standing lighthouse in the world. It was reformed in the 1780s and apparently you can still see the original building from the inside. The spiral you see on the outside is also the original walkway up. Definitely worth a visit. The views are lovely. Take a light jacket in the summer. Very windy and fresh in mid August! 😁
