Montserrat Museum offers a collection of 1,300 pieces, ranging from an Egyptian sarcophagus to works by Picasso and Dali. Located in an old monastery, this museum’s collection was started by a monk who traveled extensively through the Middle East, and has since been expanded by private donations. Tour through the six permanent collections as well as the constantly changing special exhibits. Highlights include archaeology of the biblical Middle East, with objects from Mesopotamia, Egypt, Cyprus, and Israel; paintings from the 13th to the 18th century, including works by Caravaggio, Tiepolo, Berruguete, Morales, Luca Giordano, and El Greco; and 19th- and 20th-century Catalan paintings and sculptures from Picasso, Dali, Degas, Miro, Monet, Rusiñol, and Casas.
