Montserrat Museum offers a collection of 1,300 pieces, ranging from an Egyptian sarcophagus to works by Picasso and Dali. Located in an old monastery, this museum’s collection was started by a monk who traveled extensively through the Middle East, and has since been expanded by private donations. Tour through the six permanent collections as well as the constantly changing special exhibits. Highlights include archaeology of the biblical Middle East, with objects from Mesopotamia, Egypt, Cyprus, and Israel; paintings from the 13th to the 18th century, including works by Caravaggio, Tiepolo, Berruguete, Morales, Luca Giordano, and El Greco; and 19th- and 20th-century Catalan paintings and sculptures from Picasso, Dali, Degas, Miro, Monet, Rusiñol, and Casas. See varying depictions of the Black Madonna of Montserrat, Byzantine and Slavic icons, and gold worship objects from the 15th through 20th centuries. To wrap up your stay, stop by the gift shop. See Montserrat Museum and all Montserrat has to offer by arranging your trip with our Montserrat day trip site.

  • The museum is really spectacular because it is quite large and has works by great painters from different times and countries.

  • This was my 210 visited museum and easily one of my favorites. If you would like to digest all the art works on display properly, I would suggest to allocate 4+ hours. The Museum of Montserrat showcases a selection of the most outstanding artistic and archaeological heritage at the thousand-year-old Abbey of Montserrat. The museum contains six very different collections. Entrance cost was 8EUR and no queue for tickets. Visited during week time so maybe it is busier during the weekend but definitively not a museum to miss. Could easy rate the art display at a 5+ stars, easily compared to Rijksmuseum in Netherlands.
  • This was a great quiet getaway from the crowds at Montserrat. There's lots of benches inside the galleries so you're able to relax and rest your legs. Clean bathrooms are also here! Well worth the admission fee of 8 euros. Note: Visited in Jan 2020 but catching up on reviews because- COVID.
