Old Church, Delft

Standing for nearly eight centuries, Old Church represents the oldest building in Delft, whose leaning tower is one of the city's major symbols. Located in the old city center, the Gothic church nicknamed "Old John" sits on the site of a much older wooden structure, likely founded around 1050. Approximately 400 of Delft's famous citizens lie entombed inside, including painter Johannes Vermeer and physicist Antonie van Leeuwenhoek. Other notable features include three pipe organs and a 16th-century bell that produces such powerful vibrations that bell-ringers only sound it for burials of Dutch royal family members and natural disasters.
