View a source of pride for the citizens of Haarlem at Cathedral of Saint Bavo, an elaborate Gothic structure built during the 13th century. As you approach, try to spot the tower that rises above everything else. Renaissance and Baroque art decorates the main cathedral, including the pulpit sculpture, the tombstone of Bishop Triest, and the mesmerizing painting of Saint Bavo Entering the Monastery. If you have a chance to explore the crypt under the choir, more paintings and church artifacts await. Before you leave, take a few moments to visit the former sacristy, which has been converted into a museum displaying historical artifacts from Haarlem's Catholic past. • Worth the detour from the Grote Markt area to visit this Catholic cathedral. The audio guide is totally worth it as it explain the architect’s design concept and more details surrounding the history of the church. There is a Museum underneath that we skipped due to a time crunch. The climb to the clock tower was not available on that day (Sunday). The stained glass windows, the glazed stones, the interplay of light and shadows was quite beautiful.
  • A Beautiful unfinished church with an amazing architecture . take the audio tour it’s really interesting. and for shure if your stamina is good take the 275 stairs up in one of the towers and enjoy the amazing view of the city of Haarlem.
