Get some historical perspective at Vatican Museums and Cupola di San Pietro. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Vatican City: Sutri (Chiesa Madonna del Parto, Il Mitreo, &more), Galeria Antica (in Cesano) and Bunker Soratte (in Sant'Oreste).
