You can take a train from Rome to Florence in 2.5 hours. Other options are to fly; or drive. Expect little chillier evenings in Florence when traveling from Rome in May, with lows around 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 19th (Fri) early enough to take a train to Milan.
